The Evesham Branch: BR Cattle Wagon
BR Cattle van

Another common feature in goods trains of this era was the cattle wagon.

Not so well know was the fact that in summer months, many were converted for carrying fruit too. These wagons usually displayed a cast “Fruit” plaque on each side to distinguish them from regular cattle wagons.

Both cattle and fruit carrying varieties are provided.

The Evesham Branch: BR Fruit Van
BR 12t Fruit van

Built to a very similar design to the Banana van, these wagons featured air scoops on the side to help keep the fruit cool and ventilated whilst in transit.

The Evesham Branch: BR Vanfit
BR 12t Vanfit

Designed to carry general goods, these wagons featured vacuum brakes throughout, to allow them to run at express speeds and speed up the transit of freight.

The Evesham Branch: LMS 12t Ventilated Van
LMS 12t Vent Van

An older design, still in regular use in the late ‘50s and ‘60s. Built by the LMS, they featured wooden bodies, but steel frames and pressed steel body ends.

Some were later fitted with vacuum brakes, but the version seen here remains unfitted.
